It's a small African nation---an enclave, completely surrounded by South Africa.

Used to be the best of friends, they did. Better not tell the Septics that the Statue of Liberty is French, or they'll have it moved to Guantanamo Bay.

Not that I'm aware, but it's not something I'm an expert in. I have a sneaking suspicion that Donald Woods and family might have escaped to there at the end of Cry Freedom, so its sovereign state status must have been respected by South Africa. Very odd, though, a country surrounded entirely by another one (Vatican City apart).

Well they had the 'Elephant Hotel' as a welcoming structure to immigrants and visitors before the Statue of Liberty.

On Coney Island. It was a 'whore house' apparently.

I watch QI too :-)))

I'd never heard of it before. Not quite as welcoming as the tall lady.

Me too, but couldn't remember the name of the hotel, only that it was shaped like an elephant. Took some googling to find that pic.

I agree, although it gets extra points from Americans because it's 'not French'.

As you pointed out, it's really quite bizarre the American attitude to France when without French help it wouldn't have achieved independence when it did. Okay, the French probably did it to upset the Brits, but even so . . .
