Normal cells have a lifespan, and die when they are no longer properly functional, while cancer cells do not, and you are left with numerous cells that do not function as they should.
This is NOT immortality. The immune system CAN kill these cells -as does radiation etc- and so they are not immortal - they just don't die naturally during our lifetime to be helpful.
This guy you linked to (hopefully)probably didn't mean immortality in the literal sense, and he could have phrased it better.
For one thing, we cannot know if anything is immortal, because we would need infinity to find out!
