Hey ff
Both of these bands were two of my faves as a kid (a thing im sure worried my parents on some level) in fact Erasure "the first 20 hits" was the very first album I ever bought and apart from the fecking dire cover of "Take a chance on me" it was pure class from start to finish. Not a single weak tune. This is some thing I think PSB would strugle to do. Certainly as early in theire carear as Erasure managed to do it!!
Dont get me wrong PSB have put out some of my all time favourite electro singles, but as far as shear body of great work goes, the title certainly has to go to Erasure. But this in my opinion is because erasure are unashamedly a full on "Electro pop" band where as I think its fair to say that most of the time PSB have tried to be alot more subversive and dark. There for probably more of a true fans band.
But the true masters of the genre have gotta be Depeche mode!! Vince Clarkes work on "Speak and spell" still holds up well today and Martin Gore's work since has been (on the whole) pretty fucking stunning since!! All though not with out folly.
If you have not all ready I recomend you try getting your hands on "101" at some point. IMVHO one of the few decent live albums EVER made and certainly DM at the height of their talant.
Hope your in good health sir
