that's nonsense, you are assuming that all catholics follow the church's teaching to the letter, well here's a suprise, they don't

I would say 90% have had sex out of marriage and I know a fair few gay catholics and most i've met believe in stem cell research etc etc

Would they be concidered as Catholics though (strictly speaking)?

I'd say they were brought up Catholic, but are now ex-catholic.

not at all, they all still go to church and take communion, they just don't follow everything to the letter, as is the case for most catholics - even the priests don't follow the laws to the letter (and no i'm not talking about the nonces!)
