I myself have slagged him off here on the forum somewhere, but that aside, I take my hat off to him as he did entertain the masses on a regular basis. I didn't realise the amount of money he raised for charity, and that deserves a 'well done'.
To me, he wasn't funny, but did deserve a RIP

It annoys me the way that he was demonised by certain areas of the press and then by the more prole members of the nation. For a program that was funny and wasnt explotative unlike big brotherand its ilk, it was good natured and if the people in it never wanted it shown it wasnt.
He raised ?100.000,000 for various charities (also a patron to many) suffered from lukemia and also had a cancerous kidney removed yet this never stopped him from helping others. All this and yet never went around like the new generation of "celebs" seeking more pr for it.
He was also an incredibly intelligent man and the likes of which we wont see again in this era of bland.

A pal of mine was really good friends with him. Apparently he was one of the nicest guys you could meet. He told me yesterday just how generous he was but very quiet about all the good he has done.

Maybe he gave people what he thought they wanted to see. Remember, it was the 80s.
I agree with what Marino and Ace wrote.

Another shock to the system. Is not like the guy was old.
RIP Jeremy Beadle.
Jeez some of you guys have been vicious with the comments. We're talking about a tv presenter for gods sake...Not Osama Bin Laden.

Beadle's About was really just a continuation of the veteran show Candid Camera and his elaborate pranks always one-offs with no real harm intended.
In this aspect the likes of BB are much more suspect, cynical and far, far nastier.
RIP JB.

Yes got to agree with last word that beadle's about was only
a more modern (at that time) version of candid camera.
Couldn't stand you've been framed though
He wasn't a mass murderer so some of the comments on here are harsh
He does seem to have raised a lot for children's charity - without many
people knowing. So probably not as big a twunt as he appeared to be
Even if you didn't like him (I wasn't a massive fan) 59 is still no age
especially when the likes of huntley and west are still drawing breath
RIP

A sensible post, ATS. The charity work seems to have been overlooked.
I may not have had much time for him as a presenter, but you have to admire his other work.

Beadle is a legend. If it was'nt for him i woud'nt of become the prankster that i am today.
And most of his pranks were in good taste.
