Aye, Wellsey got a gold medal, but he was competing as himself. When he received the medal the Olympic anthem was played and the Olympic flag was raised - not the Union Flag.

"The USA were particularly livid that the Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan. Two decades later the US did exactly the same."

Do you recall some guys called the Taleban, who were the allies of some other guys called Al Quaeda, who planned 9/11 from their sanctuary in Afghanistan? That's called an act of war for fuck's sake. The USSR invaded a neighbouring state, the USA attacked the people who had just killed 3,000 Americans. Can you see a difference there at all? Exactly the same my bell end.

Barcode:

The Taleban were never the good guys, and they did not push the Russians out of Afghanistan. Neither did Bin Laden and Al Quaeda. The man who did was Ahmed Shah Masood, who led the Northern Alliance, and AQ murdered him with a suicide bomb a few days before 9/11.

The Taleban were not the legitimate government of Afghanistan, they seized power by force, and were not recognised by any western state. They were backed by Islamist elements in the Pakistani secret services, most likely the same people who killed Benazir Bhutto, in other words murdering bastards.

The Taleban gave AQ the shelter of a state, where they ran training camps and planned 9/11. The fact that the 9/11 hijackers were not Afghan is immaterial, they were part of an Islamist terror network, organised by AQ, and based in Afghanistan. The invasion of Afghanistan and removal of the Taleban was one of the most just acts of foreign policy ever. The USA and its allies had every right to do what they did.

Funnily enough, there hasn't been that many demo's against the war in Afghanistan or Iraq for that matter. The left wing for some reason is very silent or trying to avoid any questions about the foreign policies of the western goverments regarding the middle east; possibly they hate the misogynistic and murderous intents of quite a lot of muslims. But really don't want to say anything that might favour Bush and his cronies, because that really wouldn't do would it?

Speaking of ''Snouts in the trough", Germaine Greeeeser and her twattish mates have never said anything about or in praise of that shit Bin ladin, twenty five years ago they were on every demo about Vietnam, not now though.
