Just when the hell did we give politicians the right to say that we cannot make use of these substances, if we wish to do so?
In the early part of the 20th century, it was perfectly possible to hear the following conversation:
"Ah, shopkeeper, I think I'll have a pound of your finest cocaine today, my good man!"
"Certainly Sir! - won't be a minute".
All perfectly legal and above-board.
They say that we live in a free society - surely you pornography folk should be aware that we do not?

Hmmmm. But then the taxpayer has to meet the bill- the pain- for someone else's pleasure.
Porn doesn't hurt anyone- but drugs hurt all the relations of the poor sap taking them; if not a lot more.

The shocking things about this situation is:
1) It was a sort of a slow suicide, everyone could see what was happening but no-one could reach him despite it being well documented.
2) He was a long-established and respected kids tv presenter. We've all had to get used to much-loved rock stars & film stars squandering their talents via addictions over the years, but I suppose this is akin to the relevant generations to Brian Cant or Tony Hart developing such habits. Nigh on 20 years in the business means he hit a chord across several generations
3) The fact that seems to be lost on many is thus: he was clearly known to use these 'recreational' substances freely and in spite of what his 'friends' might claim now, this was clearly completely acceptable to all concerned as no-one did a damn thing about a major-league 'nice guy' kids tv presenter being a manic cokehead. Yes, he made his own choices and in that respect his guilt about his girlfriends death was not mis-placed, but if any proof was needed that, despite what anyone says, Cocaine is readily avaible and accepted within the 'media' then we have it now - the widespread tolerance and abuse of this substance cannot be denied.
Being in my mid-30's and not yet having begun 'sprogging', Speight meant bugger-all to me, but most under-25's will have grown up with him

Very sad indeed all this. I have seen some of his work and there's
no doubt he was clever in the way he put art across to kids
To find his girlfriend the way he did must have been awful

To me this suicide points more towards him telling a few too many porkies to the police to save his sorry ass about his girlfriends death ... problem being he couldn't live with himself after doing that.
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
