But that is the point. Normally you would not compare the social mores of 7th century Arabia and 21st century Britain. However, the Koran is meant to be the undiluted word of God, told direct to Mohammed, and true for all time. And it just happened to take place in 7th century Arabia, cementing those mores in place for all time. If the Koran condones slavery, polygamy or child marriage, then that holds true for all time, and that's why fundamentalist Islam is incompatible with modern society.
