Some extensive destruction of buildings and infrastructure. They're interviewing people on some Arab channel I'm watching now - even though I can't understand a word they're saying, I can't say they come over as anything but upset terrorists. I wouldn't like to be a white man parachuted into Gaza, I've a feeling they'd tear him apart - although they like accepting EU aid. I can't help but have the feeling the Gaza Strip should not exist and the people should be moved to the West Bank or let Egypt take them in.

Why are you scared, Reggie? What do you think is going to happen?

I'm not falling for any "hype", Reggie. I was simply responding to CJ's statement in which he appears to be saying that if Israel has nukes, then the Arabs / Iran should have them too.

I sincerely hope that Iran IS indeed - as you say - a long, long way from nuclear capability.

Because to be honest, I think that the prospect of nukes being wielded by a bunch of West-hating religious loons with a martydom wish and known links to Islamic terror groups is a far more worrying prospect.

And if the Islamists take over in Pakistan (which DOES have nukes), then it really will be time to start thinking about breaking out the shovels and digging those shelters.

I agree with your first point. Second is it don't matter what I think. It would be "only fair" for Iran to have nukes since Israel has them. Now what they do with them is up to them though I admit the fight is between the Palastinians and Israel and the Palastinians need to be equally armed as well. I forget who's post I read but the Palastinians are only fighting for what's theirs and like the good ole U.S., Israel is trying to take something from somebody. I don't blame them (Palastinians) for fighting back.

As I believe Israel is nuke capable I have to admit I ain't 100% sure and second the U.S. is giving Israel money so I don't think if Israel so called "used" them the U.S. would probably turn their heads and the religious right would be screaming "Jesus is here"!!

Now now Reggie - if you were to talk about the Arabs in such terms, no doubt accusations of racism would soon start flying thick and fast.

I'd actually agree with you that Israel has done some pretty shitty things over the years - but has also had some pretty shitty things done to it.

You can argue till the cows come home over who's "fault" it is. I know it's 'fashionable' to blame Israel only, but the Arabs / Palestinians need to stand up and be counted also.

You can argue that the current Israeli response is "disproportionate" - but as I said above, Hamas knew exactly what would happen and yet they went ahead and started firing rockets at Israel anyway, in a cynical ploy to cause civilian casualties among their own people and thus score a propaganda coup.

It's just a pity that so many people (including on forums like this, and all those folk waving placards outside Israeli embassies) seem totally blind to this, adopting instead the standard knee-jerk "just blame Israel" response.

You go on above about Israel "stealing land", but that's only true up to a point (e.g. with the settlements - which I agree is wrong).

You have to remember that that the Palestinians could have had their own state 60 years ago under the UN plan, but they (egged on by their fellow Arabs) rejected it and instead opted for war against Israel in an all-or-nothing gamble - which they lost. That laid the groundwork for the sorry state of affairs that's prevailed ever since.
