don't know if anyone saw the mail today but there was a 2 page spread which started along the lines of you shouldn't speak ill of the dead but we'll make an exception in his case, many black marks against him

more recently, john jnr, hardly any flying experience, probably not qualified to fly but silly enough to take a plane up at night, took most difficult route over the ocean and promptly killed himself and his wife .

So why are we force fed a different story which edits out the distasteful stuff ? The Times website has a comment facility which was running on the Kennedy story until later in the day when it appeared to have been pulled, presumably because they were getting a lot of negative comments which someone had apparently decided they weren't going to print.

Perhaps you shouldn't speak ill of the dead but on the other hand if you try not to live an ill life there's not as much ammunition when you leave. (Witness Bobby Robson's passing). Why should we be encouraged in a very partial view of him as a great public servant when a broader view seems to seriously undermine this ?

I think you will find that he was not the only survivor and he towed an injured crewman for several miles to an uninhabited island. Others made it under their own steam. He then swam to another island and found water. He swam back to the first island and towed the injured man to the island with water. It also had a hidden Australian coastwatcher who was able to radio for help. As for being responsible for the loss of his ship. Yeh, well that's the way that all navies view captains, no matter how junior, who lose their ships. JFK's boat was idling, at night, waiting for likely targets. It just happened that a Jap destroyer went straight through them.

Rules and regulations contolling flying are in place for a reason. The reason being that unqualified people aren't filling the airspace and being a danger to others.
How this little shit was able to take his aircraft out at night just proves that the Kennedy name will overcome lesser mortals. The tower at the field he took off from should have known he wasn't qualified for night flying yet he still took off.

Bobby Robson was a good man and extremely well respected by his profession and by everyone who ever met him.
Bobby is the chalk to Kennedy's cheese, so in Kennedys' case I see nothing wrong with speaking ill of the dead. After all, it is the truth.
