For sure, everyone likes Lindsay Honey. But the thread was started to see what the industry thinks of the BBC.
It's apparent that LH, if indeed he does have friends at the Beeb, is just about the only pornographer who does.
Jonone says "Yes it's the BBC but BBC4 isn't mainstream broadcasting inasmuch as it's not BBC1 or BBC2. Maybe this means that their point of view with regard to porn is more relaxed."
But the BBC MADE the programme, then CHOSE to show it on BBC4. So they can have it both ways - the porn industry (if they aren't paying close attention) think times have changed cos "our Ben's on the Beeb", while the Beeb can point to its relegation to BBC4, the lack of ANY naked women or shots of Ben's knob, the snide commentary, etc, if accused of giving publicity to a pornographer.
Want to see what BBC journalists are really like? Google "John Sweeney Loses It" on youtube. Absolutely jaw-dropping.

Muffinman, I doubt it was ever a contender for BBC1 or BBC2; there's not much stuff crosses over from BBC4 to the other two. I don't think they shoot and then choose, I think the choice is made much earlier than that.
I don't know if it was made by the BBC - i'd have to be interested enough to watch it again and look at the credits. If it wasn't it was made with BBC money .. maybe an independent producer pitches the Dover doc to someone at the BBC who says 'Yes, it fits in with BBC4 output. We'll finance it', but with that comes editorial influence.

I dont think any or many of us are hoodwinked for a second that times have changed by the tone of this programme. All Im saying is people shouldnt be afraid to use the negativity that comes with it as blatant self promotion to just say "Im here"
The public no full well how tv looks at porn as was evident with the Sex Education Show VS Porn on Channel 4 recently.
The public are finding it boring that porn is being demonused because it is the publics consumption of it that is turning the tide of opinion.
For better or worse, tv is just fuelling that fire.
Theres so much sex out there now that people are being desensitised to the controversy of it.
When it was controversial is when there was a barrel load of money to being made out of it. now all the corporate companies are wanting a slice of the action
The BBC are just trying to make sure it remains the moral guardian for the nation by trying to appear like its ok but buy its tone poo-pooing it.
If they really were moral guardians then maybe they should just stay the hell away from it but if they are going to flirt with the porn industry then you will find people who get their tits and bits out for a living have no shame about talking about it on national tv, it just depends what they are getting out of it

The beeb felt comfortable making this doc because it reinforced the stereotype of the unthreatening, so called "Cheeky Chappy Pornographer". It even had the element of shame in that Lindsay was turning his back on sleaze and wanting to break into acting. So it was safe and fulfilled the remit of porn docu.
I thought an interesting comment by the commentator was when Lyndsay entered the actors' studio he referred to Lindsay as the, "Fox amongst the lambs", as if, because he was in porn, Lindsay would immediately start groping every female within reach.
Having known Lindsay for 25 years, to be honest I was disappointed how he seemed to continually climb up the cameraman's arse, cos he was at last on " Proper telly". I remember the days when he wouldn't have crossed the road to piss on a BBC director, if he were on fire!" as it were.....
