Agreed. And further to your comment on racists, I kinda think a similar way about the condradictory nature of racists/xenophobes who, amongst many other things:
1) complain about migrants/immigrants "coming over here, taking all our jobs" etc
2) lament the fall of good ol' British industries and complain we don't do or make anything any more
3) support the supremacy of retailers sourcing from sweatshop and child labour powered factories in the Far East, all so that clothes can be hoovered up in the UK from as low as ?2 odds a pop.
4) are the first to take a pop at benefit cheats and scammers but don't seem so vocal or concerned at the maximisation (and lobbying for) public subsidies by a typical Megacorp etc, who then indulge in extravagant global "tax planning" schemes to stick two fingers up to the hand that fed them.

We can't have our (victoria sponge) cake and eat it.

The beauty of the internet is that people can metaphorically pull the pin out of a grenade and hurl it in a room and shut the door and walk away...which is why i imagine the mods of this site had to have rules in place so it doesnt come crashing down under anarchy leaving a post apocalyptic landscape of a forum bereft of all humanity where people come to do verbal battle and spread viral diseases of malicious gossip.

I agree OEJ. The only comparable situation to the Internet I have come across with regard to letting off steam is football matches. I went to see Blackpool a few weeks ago (not the most popular or successful of teams) and I couldnt believe the level of abuse being given by the supporters to the referee, linesmen, opposition players. Much of it was mindless and not funny at all, shouted by people who werent spotty yobs but middle aged guys.
Makes you wonder what their day to day lives are like - endless frustrations, maybe.
