Deano, I'm an art director/set designer and let me tell you; it's ALL lies and trickery. You can get away with a lot by using careful shots and editing. Even multi million dollar Hollywood epics reuse old props and set elements. Example. Gladiator/Alexander/300/Clash of the Titans have all used a shit load of the same stuff.

Hugodown - I remember hearing that in Hollywood, low budget movie makers often quickly moved in to use a set that only the big budget producers could afford before it was due to be dismantled.

It probably became a bit of a 'train spotting' exercise amongst movie buffs to pick out props that they'd seen in other films.

I also remember seeing a particularly cheap cowboy movie made in about 1972 where you could easily see some of the 'extras' were in fact cardboard cut outs. Due to sloppy camera work, it became obvious some of the bad dudes leaning against the rail outside the saloon were only a few millimeters thick!
