The ad may have got people talking about it but I don't think that is the same as them sucessfully promoting the product. As I mentioned I hope they get less interest for their site as a result. In fact I am sure that is exactly what has happened!

The Go Compare man is indeed a complete twat. Give me Aleksandr the Meerkat any day.

Actually it was quite a good joke in the first ad:

"How much are they paying him?"

"He's only a tenor."

But otherwise it's totally irritating. I agree the meerkats are brilliant.

He's my favourite! I love the comparethemeerkat.com site. Very original!

But which one is the original in this photo?....simples!

Nice to see that they based Aleksandr on Jim in his dressing gown!

It's been deliberately done that way in direct reply to comparethemeerkat adverts.

If you think about it there was little they could do to combat the success of the meerkat adverts which have become popular beyond expectation.

To try to emulate a simlar cutesy appoach would have failed, anything else would have been too bland by comparisson.

So yes its irritating but the fact is everyone knows it too, but for a different reason, but its still job done.

What is the purpose of an advert, to get you to remember the product.

And what have you put at the top of this topic

> The 'Go Compare' TV advert

So it worked.

Exactly what they wanted.

Do they work though?

Because at the present time, I just happen to be shopping around for car insurance in the UK and as far as I'm concerned, Go Compare can Go Fuck Themselves. I wouldn't touch the bastards with a bargepole just on principle.

Direct Line also, with that fucking red 'trumpet fanfare' telephone of theirs. That one must be at least 20 years old, time for a change surely?

My own small measure of retaliation for them trying to force-feed me their shite adverts every 12 minutes when I'm just trying to take a well-earned break in front of the old goggle box.

How sure Max?

"Go Compare sees upsurge in traffic - The comparison site attributes its TV marketing campaign to a 20% increase in visitors to its website. Go Compare's head of marketing, Nick Hall, said: 'We?ve seen a dramatic increase in brand awareness since the campaign started ? up by 450% ? which puts us at the top of the price comparison category, and this has ultimately converted into record customer numbers.'"
