"You might find that the UAE authorities believe that the UAE is their country,"
You might find that the British authorities have a similar view.
"and foreigners have to behave by their rules."
Can't remember the last time I saw a public whipping in Bradford.
"Try opening a church or a bar there if you like, it may not be absolutely forbidden as it is in Saudi Arabia, but you will have to do it on their terms."
You should have a trip to most British cities. The number of bars and clubs that have fallen foul of the licensing laws.
" And there is no chance of the foreign guest workers becoming citizens either, that is not something the UAE will allow, for obvious reasons."
Well the reason for that is obvious in a country in which UAE nationals represent only 13% of the overall UAE population.

Really? New Labour proposed the idea that all cultures were equal even the ones which saw Victoria Climbie get killed. How many times did we read that foreign cultures were just as valid as ones here even if they go against a way of life that had remained virtually unchanged for centuries.

Honour killings anyone?

Somewhat disingenuous since there are not that many Muslims wanting to open bars or churches in this country but if they did, they would not be thwarted by the state.

and of course there's this
(yes it's illegal, but the point is it's happening and is a problem)

and blinkered head-in the-sand fools shout down as "little englanders" and "racists" anyone who has the temerity to suggest that mass immigration might also bring with it problems as well as benfits. How sad.

"New Labour proposed the idea that all cultures were equal even the ones which saw Victoria Climbie get killed"
That is a different point from arguing that there are no inherent British traditions, history, constitution and legal system which denotes "Britain". In short this is clearly our country in terms of one in which the British constitution and British law developed over the centuries rules
"Honour killings anyone"
Thank you for proving my point, Essex Lad. In some countries, honour killings are deemed acceptable in certain cases. Here in Britain, they are not and result, if found guilty, in a murder conviction. This backs up my point.
The point about churches etc. is that Britain is a highly controlled society and that is no different for mosques, particularly if you consider the vast amounts of money spent on monitoring the activities of religious imams and mosques and prosecuting if necessary.

If you knew anything about Enoch Powell, you'd know he was not petty-minded, racist nor a Little Englander.

David,
Sadly, there are none so blind as they who will not see. If you really think the experience that a country like the UAE has with British expats is anything like the societal change Britain has undergone since the 1960s then you are truly blind to reality, and no glib comments on your part will change that.

Three comments:
1. This is just your opinion and has no evidence to back it up whatsoever.
Nor do you do anything at all to counter my argument that a country in which only 13% of the population are UAE nationals and is still Muslim in its culture and beliefs completely smashes your argument that "when you allow millions of people into Britain from places like Jamaica, Somalia and Pakistan, Britain becomes significantly more similar to places like Jamaica, Somalia and Pakistan.
2. Your other tactic apart from the evidence-free post I have noted is that when you are unable to answer my point you manufacture feigned anger as a reason for your not making a reply e.g.
3. Do you think you will ever get the hang of how threads work and then act on that? You know - link it into the correct place in the thread and maybe change the subject to give people at least a bit of a clue as to who you're replying to?

David,
The clue as to who I am replying to is that I use your name. You seem to get it, so what is the problem?
As to the UAE, which of course you brought up, my point is that it uses foreign nationals as guest workers for its own advantage, and according to its own rules. The UAE does not intend to offer citizenship to any of the foreign nationals who work there to the benefit of the UAE and its people. The contrast to the UK could hardly be more apparent to anyone who, unlike yourself, wishes to see it.
For the record, I am far from angry with you. Sorry for you, maybe.
