O/T. You were right Alec..she also said that James Cook FOUND Australia...WRONG! He was the first to circumnavigate (ouch!) Oz but it was found by (After the Aborigine's of course)by a Dutch dude!

Boudicca and Caratacus are so far back into our murky past that I'm surprised any of them got votes. Glyndwr deserves a place, being the personification of Welsh nationalism. I'm almost glad I didn't see the programme and full list, since I've learned Beckham and Robbie Williams also (dis)graced it.
The ignorance of history, and the importance of certain individuals reponsible for making the British what we are doesn't surprise me. One person deciding that the most important Brit who ever lived was Beckham, in spite of their being over 2000 years filled with better-qualified candidates---but enough people to propel him into the top 60!! It beggars belief. Shakespeare to Newton to Blake to Dickens to Lloyd-George to Churchill to John Lennon to some bloke who kicks a ball about. Sheesh!

iknow this is off topic but seeing monty python mentioned earlier reminded me to tell u some of my favourite sketches the visitors,spam,biggles dictates a letter, chesse shop,the wilkins parody.
