At least with normal films there is a chance that they can price their product reasonably because eventually it is going to end up on dvd in hmv, tesco, woolworths etc - probably at three for a tenner if you wait long enough. Porn producers obviously have to take into account a limited (through no fault of their own) marketplace and adjust their prices to fit costs and at least some profit. Whether a porn dvd is sold in a shop or on the internet the vendor needs to make a profit to keep their business going and because of government legislation limiting sales of r18 they can more or less charge what they want. Whereas HMV etc know if they charge ?15 for a dvd someone will bang it out at a tenner because they know they'll sell ?100,000 more copies.

m100: Producers are already at a loss when it comes to the shops because I doubt the average producer gets more than between ?4 and ?5.50 per unit sales.
The shops sell it for ?20. So you see. Its the producer that is getting kicked in the nuts on this and when shops do exchanges and keep reselling the product the producer might as well have his pants pulled down and shagged up the arse then.
This is the main reason why the dvd market is f**ked! If producers had their way I reckon they would sell dvds for a tenner to cover postage and packing but this is illegal of course.
The government is quick to impose exorbitant fees on adult product whikle trying to sweep the whole issue of piracy unde rthe carpet because they turn their noses up at porn.
If they cant be seen to be associated with it then stop imposing over inflated licence fees for shops. Its not as if us producers dont pay our taxes.
In fact some of us pay so much tax that I consider myself working for the government now.

This is exactly the point. The media parades some poor sucker who had to sell his kid's Xbox to pay a fine for piracy, and a million people stop using pirate sites, regardless of what technology they use or where they are hosted. It's crude but effective.

Wow Delirium! Do you think there is a justification for theft then?
Why should a multi million pound company give a fart for some bloke with a cheap computer from pc world giving away stolen stuff for free?
He broke the law when he did it pure and simple by selling copyrighted material that doesnt belong to him or had any right to give away.
Lets look at it another way. Is it ok for me to come to your house and put my feet up on your coffee table and watch your tv then maybe help myself to your food in the fridge then?
Maybe I can borrow your car to get back home too.
Think about that then ask yourself if you was a producer of a multi million pound movie if you wouldnt be pissed that it is being given away for nothing t millions of people who may have actually put their hand into their pocket to have seen it on the cinema or bought it on dvd but fat chance of that happening now because if the option is to pay for it or get it for free, what would you do?
If you watch the end credits of a movie and ask yourself how much that came to in wages etc I bet you'd be steaming if it was you.
Thats the problem with people who steal, They always look for an excuse why they should do what they do and that seems to be the problem with society at large.
If some skint teenager robbed your grandma simply because she had more money than him at the time would you be ok with that justification?
Theft is theft. Nuff said.

A nice theory... but it just doesn't work.
The music industry has been doing this since the Napster case. They've also sued Gnetella, Kazaa & I think there's a case in the pipeline against BitTorrent.
Every couple of months some case is hauled in front of the media and held up as a warning to file sharers. And do you know what changes after the initial (mild) panic... absolutely nothing!
I've recently downloaded NIN's The Slip album for free (& legally) via BitTorrent... info at the link:
Now I'm not suggesting this particular approach would work for porn... the point I'm making is; rather than (NIN) expending their energy railing against pirates stealing their work. They're experimenting with ways to try to make file sharing work for them. If this approach doesn't work out, I'm pretty sure they'll try another one...
As I said before, I'm not knocking producers trying to protect their work. I just think that the limited resources available, would probably be better spent on trying to think of ways to exploit the technology, to see if can be used to increase sales.

No!... where did I say that?
Look! I don't want get into a slanging match with you OEJ, but don't try to put words in my mouth. Nowhere in my post(s) do I suggest that stealing is right, I even expressed sympathy with producers predicament.
You have your opinion, & I have mine, but please don't try and misrepresent my position by using examples of behaviour I wasn't even trying to defend.
But hey... if venting your righteous anger on me makes you feel better... then go right ahead...

DRM is bad news wherever it raises it's head. I will not buy anything that has it on principle.
I know we're just a tiny operation, but Spuffco will never use DRM.

Good point, reminds me of the reading about the MGM, Fox and others when TV first came about and they tried to fight it instead of making it work for them.
Whole things fucking pointless anyway, won`t be downloading shit soon legally or otherwise. ISP`s don`t want you downloading as it eats into their profits. And legally downloaded music`s a fucking joke, synch your ipod to your 360 and watch your music disapear.
