You could always get yourself a Canon 5D mk2 which shoots HD video up to 30 mins and takes blinding pics if you really want to be flash but if budget is a consideration then the PD170 wil have to do

The quality of the film on a D5 cannot match the same as video cameras, how ever good the camera is its impossible.
When you buy a washing machine, The spin dryers never work as well as getting a seperate one, the same with music, a seperate amplifier always does better sound quality.
@ Milton, I agree with Terry about the 3chip Panasonic's. They do take a nice picture & sound, especially as they are only 2 or 3 hundred quid!
So why not PD170 if you can afford it?

I've got a PD170 with wide angle adaptor, two small batts and a peli case with purpose built interior - I've also got a small tripod which is fine with the 170 and nice and small too.

I second that - Sony PD100 is a great camera and you should be able to puck up a good used one quite cheaply.
