Waterloo fucking station! as you so nicely put it and the 'Liverpool' Waterloo
are right next to the river Mersey and the song says nothing about Terry and Julie using a bridge ...all together now ...'Terry across the Mersey'
they meet at the station and they cross over the river .

If you want a bridge ill play it for you .......

Blimey, you're not going to let this one go, are you!?

And Return To Waterloo? Perhaps they flew there?

But of course you're right - Ray Davies wasn't standing by Waterloo Bridge in the programme I saw - he was sailing on a ferry boat. Still, it's easy to confuse the two?

By the way, is that the Liver Building you can see on fire in Gone With The Wind?

Nice try but what's "Return To Waterloo" go to do with it ? this is nothing to do with my orig point, and its only used as a name for a totally different project ,Starring Ken Colley as "The Traveler" not Starring Ken Colley as "Terry"

1 In HIS book (X-ray) Ray Davies says that Waterloo Sunset is about
Liverpool

2 In Person he has stated to an audience that its about Liverpool !

3 Liverpool has a Waterloo ,a Dirty old river , Taxi's ,and people called Terry
and Julie......shock horror

You Hollies fan's are all the same mate ....

Hasn't it's new multi-million arts centre (the name escapes me) been something of a failure though? This is a culture thing, after all.

Hollies Fan? I should say not!

So you deny that Ray Davies decided to make the song about HIS city after hearing Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields? It may be so, but I for one have heard, and read, him state it otherwise on more than one occasion.

Good heavens above, this is really turning into a silly arguement and no mistake. Like I say, if Ray Davies was standing on a Liverpool ferry while reminiscing about the importance of Waterloo, I'd have to accept it. As things stand, the song is set in London.

PS - is Waterloo station in the Liverpool suburb really swarming with people 'like flies' in the evening?

Actually, don't answer that - I'll probably be told that the people who live round there have wings and six legs.

whats wrong with the hollies?

Hope it's clickable. Listen to his soundfiles.

I really can't think of anything else to add other than what you've already said - Waterloo was inspiring for Ray. Why would he have been anywhere near Waterloo in Liverpool?
