They were called the Beatles because they were great fans of
Buddy Holly and the Crickets and wanted another name that
was an incect.
In answer to Steve56, they were indeed the Quarrymen
(John Lennon went to Quarry Bank school), then the
Silver Beatles for a while.

Their lead guitarist is Chris Holmes who appeared in Hustler in 82.

I think mine is Steely Dan.
Steely Dan was the name of a huge dildo in a famous
book (the name of which escapes me at the moment).
Favorite name for a tribute band is Fred Zepplin.
