Your interpretation- subjective. And I did say above that certain syllables have been noted to elicit a canine response- whether that is indicative of 'understanding' is moot.

Loaded and tendentious. No-one is trying to 'explain away' anything, rather to try and understand the true extent of animal sentience. Most scientists I have talked to (and that was quite a few, a while back) would be delighted if your contention were true rather than otherwise.
