My Garibaldi theory is, that the Italians first manufactured them from extruded steers' bollocks, and then added lots of rabbit-turds to imitate those raisin thingies.
Devilish clever, these Latin types. Nobody ever suspected, not least my Auntie Francie, who would have been horrified at such a wanton misuse of bunny-rabbits..........
