What he has done is Championed a cause which might help him AND OTHER SUFFERERS survive longer and potentionally be cured

You can debate wether this is an act of a Brave man

Personally I don't think it is

My definition of bravery being he who puts his life on the line to save other lives

What Christopher Reeve has shown is a willingness to use his Profile to further the research into this field

The greatist thing that he has done in such a devastating personal time is remain postive and focus his energy rather than regressing into self pity...a truly remarkable feat when considering what he had before the accident

The Mans Mental Strength an Will to Succeed far overshadow anything called Bravery IMHO

I totally see H's point, it's only when some famous suffers that these peoples plight gets brought to our attention, otherwise we stroll through our daily lives not giving it a second thought, we can all jump on the bandwagon, just so we can make out like we care, to try and show poeple how compasionate we are, but what sets up apart is having the balls to say Hey hold on no I don't agree with that, thats why this world is so fucked up... too mnay fence sitters, but in hindsight being very close to someone for years who suffered from MS, and NEVER complained once that they were confined to a wheelchair? it made me realise how lucky I really am, when they passed away, just like Christopher Reeves mother, I had, and still do have. mixed emotions, I miss them terribly, but in my heart I feel they are at peace now, whever they are

There will always be fence sitters

Thats just the way humans are...flight or fight...flight every time

You only need introduce a handicapped person to an abled bodied one andwatch the body language

Simply put its a taboo subject thats never mentioned

If you really want to get the vibe just ask people about the Para - Olympics?

Society is being squeezed like a sponge and any compassion or understanding towards those in need are all being placed in the same basket as financially draining

I'm sure Hitler won the war sometimes

Well made points Holden, very nice, let?s just say we agree to disagree on this. I for one think he was very brave in the way he handled his sad existance and faced his problems head on in the public spotlight, I am not really interested in what a spoilt shit he was before his accident, you tell me a big Hollywood star that doesn?t have the very same problem ... if the rumours are to be believed, so it ain?t no big deal to me.
Though not sure what is the problem with the Connolly link, the fucking guy is a comedian that is what they do?? make fun of the less fortunate, i.e. Michael Jackson, all Irish blokes called Pat and Mick, Shirtlifters etc, etc, bound to be a bid near the knuckle to some folks I guess, and do the Great British public really give a toss what a comedian has said during his act, just another case of the tabloids feeding us horse shit and hoping that they strike a chord with some people so they can print another 10 pages of bullshit over the course of the week, that my friend IS brainwashing.

I think the thing with Connolly was that he turned on the audience member who could hardly be called a heckler.
Con expects people to suck up and kiss arse even if he coughs. This guy made a fair valid point, Con didn't like it so acted like a cunt.
He is a total media whore.

As for Reeves off screen behaviour, that isn't why I feel the way I do.
I've met plenty of people in the industry who are arrogant fucks and I've also met some incredibly humble people. Jackie Chan has to top the list of nicest, politest most humble people ever, yet he is a billion times more famous and has a lot more pressure on him.
He has broken practically every bone in his body and takes some serious medicine to alleviate the pain. Does he ever bitch? Nope.

The "brave" label is what I hate.
Reeves expected and hoped for a cure. He did what anybody else would do. Pray.
For me, the "brave" ones are the people who just get on with it.
Reeves needed the Hollywood light to bring attention to it.
He didn't hate it at all!
He got more praise, arsekissing and awards since the accident.

I have his autobiography here, "Still Me". It's a very good read, but then I do like autobiographys.

I just don't ascribe to the brave label.
