I've skied there a few times, I think it's spot on, no packed slopes or pretentious nobs and crazy prices like the alpine resorts.
as for the food, granted, eating in the hotels is not a good idea, they are shit. Talk to the locals and go to some of the actual Bulgarian restaurants they use and eat local stuff, not what the hotels think they should serve up. The national dishes like Kavama is excellant along with various pancakes filled with sweet and savory stuff
