The problem with your cozy little "egalitarian" argument is that ETA has now renounced violence, the Red Brigade no longer exists and in any case NONE of these groups have a history of suicide bomb attacks against passenger aircraft. And what's more, FARC and Shining Path are strictly left-wing guerrilla movements with a domestic agenda and operating solely within their own countries.

Don't forget that before 9/11 no-one had any problem with Muslims on planes either (great title for a new cult B movie methinx!!), but since then the track record of that particular group on aircraft (and indeed trains) hasn't exactly - shall we say - "inspired confidence" among the rest of the travelling public.

The inescapable fact remains though that even if the odd bomber has been of non-Asian / Middle Eastern origin, by far the vast majority of them have been. And in any case, Somalis typically have dark skins and long, angular faces with sharp features, as opposed to the typically more round-faced, flat-nosed features of other sub-Saharan negroes, and so are far more likely to pass for someone of Middle Eastern origin.

I'm not saying that "racial profiling" is foolproof - or even fair. Simply that in the current climate it's going to happen, like it or not.

StrictlyB, why are you having problems with racial profiling? You seem to have done that yourself by stating, 'dumb northern wankers' have been 'suckered' by Tony Blair. Aren't there any 'dumb southern wankers' then?

No Priminister can be any good because you can't please everybody at the same time. You can only hope to be 'less bad' than others before you, which when you look at it like that, is debatable.
