I think Pakistani is the techically correct term.

In my opinion, yeh it pretty much depends entirly on conext and your relationship with a person.

For me, it's potentially offensive because 1. You're reducing a person to their race alone and 2. It may just be inaccurate.

I don't know if he's a racist because I don't know him but I wouldn't address anybody by an even slightly derogatory name. I wouldn't call a chinese person "chinky", (we in the states say "chinks" not me though) a white person "whitey", and I wouldn't want nobody to call me "blacky". People DO deserve respect unless they don't show you any. If he called me "boss" I wouldn't see that as namecalling. I liken it to being called "sir", "bro", "homes" or "homie".
