Yes that's a good theory.
Since polytheism was both Egyptian and Israelite ways of life, and since monotheism wasn't tolerated within Egyptian culture, then it would seem that this disgust for monotheism is maybe a rebellious thing by the enslaved Israelites? A thing that set them apart from their enslavers maybe?
Lots of Caribbean authors, and poets, refused proper English spelling, grammar and punctuation purposely. It was in defiance of their rulers. Breaking the rules gave them their own rules as it were. Maybe the seeds of monotheism was indeed in defiance of Egyptian rule in the same way? Something that grew ever more popular when they were freed?

Hmmm maybe. The Bible's writing s talk of 2000bc-1200bc making Judaism the oldest monotheistic religion, though most historians are quite rightly sceptical of the accuracy.
Also, though Zoroastrianism was worshipping one god, I think there were other 'lesser gods'. If they were indeed known as lesser gods, then the religion isn't wholly monotheistic. Maybe they were known as prophets, of spirits like Judaism, Islam and Christianity? I don't know enough to say either way.....

"Given that Judaism is the first recognised organised monotheistic religion, and that monotheism was born in Egypt a couple of centuries earlier (during the reign of "heretic" pharoah Akhenaten, whose religious beliefs were proscribed, and efforts made to airbrush him from history), there must have been some cross-pollination."
fuck my bunnet Caractacus can you translate that for the non-historians on this board, I might seem a bit thick I know but do you write David Attenborough's Scripts or something in your spare time once you have finished doing the Times crossword during your 5min. smoke break .... oh how common I feel in your midst mate.

I think we have to face the fact that amongst all the religions in the world Islam appears to be simply (no doubt there will those who will say far to simply put) unable to co-exsist with any other religion or society that isnt islam.
The difficulties we have in combating the tide of fundamentalisism (oops) is that our society is based on tolerance (at the expense of its own culture, citizens and relgion) We go out of our way to have a dream world of where all creeds and colours etc are treated equal even though its impossible for them to do it. We are all expected to love gays and treat women as eqauls (no problem with this one) yet Islam condones stoning the first and saying/treating the second as animmals. It seems the same as keeping a dog that does nothing more than keep attacking you day in day out and stay keeping it as one day it wil get better and stop of its own accord.
Like it or not the muslim problem going to get alot worse and i dont think the more tolerant easy going religions are going to win.
The pope was correct when he said that islam is a religion that hasnt evolved from it first came into being.

We in the states seem to co-exist with muslims with no problems until they want to build a mosque in certain neighborhoods then the racist whites come out in droves.
