Good album, but Revolver was better.

I read somewhere recently that after he first heard 'Sgt. Pepper', Brian took to his bed for days.

Cover versions

Post by Pervert »

A cover version should try to be different, otherwise what is the point.

Recently bought the remastered version of Steve McQueen, which has a second disc of fresh recordings of eight of the songs done by Paddy McAloon. Some of them are almost unrecognisable at first---and not in a bad way.

Someone like Marmalade can get away with recording Beatles songs (let's be honest, Obladi-Oblada was pretty bad), but when someone messes with a classic (Phil Collins, Tomorrow Never Knows---why!!!!!!!!!) they should be slagged off.

No, the DC5 beat HH by some weeks, if not months. I am saying I remember the phenomenon! HH had a longer shelf life in the US, is all.

Huh, 'Obladi' might be my fave song on the White Album, which I have always considered a mish-mash & a 2nd-rate effort. To me (NB usage WZRip) it is one of the best all-time 'feel-good' tunes.
Tho I think 'Back In the USSR' is a trenchant hoot.

Oh, of course I forgot 'Revolution', one of the group's finest, & a song that took some courage to do, considering the prevailing cultural climate, esp. among musicians.

There's stuff on the White album that shows them, and Lennon in particular, at the height of their writing talent. It's also that rarity, a Beatles album where the Ringo song is very good!
