Given that he went bonkers, his later "opinions" were often sought from his sister Elisabeth who, in response, tended to introduce a fair amount of her own ideas....

Maybe he never went mad after all? They just assumed so from the sisters rantings?!
He had trouble getting a girlfriend too. I guess a tic infested tache doesn't appeal to some ladies
