Never a truer word spoken.
It used to be particularly bad in the UK in the '70s and '80s when hardcore porn was illegal.
In Soho (and come to think of it in places like Sheffield & Manchester also) there were loads of seedy "adult bookstores" (or stores with "adult" sections) run by low-life wideboys who would repackage copies of old contact mags in Color Climax covers, shrink-wrap 'em and then flog 'em as the real deal to unsuspecting, gullible punters for a tenner or more a shot, which was quite a lot for a mag in those days (relying on the punter being to embarrassed to go back and complain).
Indeed, I myself fell foul of that particular scam once - but only once (lesson learned).
Of the pornographers back then, David Sullivan (erstwhile lover of the late Mary Millington and of Playbirds / Lovebirds / Whitehouse mags publishing fame) must have been the worst - always promising "the strongest action yet" (and always "in next month's issue"), but never actually delivering. (That said, his titles still gave me many a happy hour of blissful "wrist action" as a teenager!!).
Even today (looking across from from my vantage point on mainland Europe), it seems to me that it's still not much better in Britain as far as porn is concerned - you can get the hard stuff legally now, but usually at piss-take prices.
