Ok so its back to the slo-mo soft focus smooth transition to soothing jazz music type erotica then.

There's a scene in a mainstream Hollywood movie that I saw recently that makes a mockery of this new law. It's in Hostel 2. A naked girl is hung in the air. An older woman disrobes and stretches herself out below her. She then starts slicing the girl with a sword and showering herself in the girl's blood. She then picks up a scythe and slices the girl's neck, killing her. No intelligent person watching this scene could be in any doubt that its function is erotic -- both women are starkers, you see their breasts clearly, the MILF is gorgeous and her character is obviously getting her sexual kicks from it. And given the fact that I paid to see this scene by renting out the movie from Blockbuster I'd say by pretty strict definition that the scene is pornographic. It was made to turn its audience on. And it goes way beyond "appearing" to be "life-threatening". The victim dies, in a very horrible manner. And, for all intents and purposes, the MILF has an orgasm when she does.

So there you have it -- the BBFC obviously thinks that it's fine for hot-blooded young males, who form the target audience for Hostel 2, to get off on an erotic scene that seeks to trigger sexual arousal from torture and murder. But take the exact same scenario and throw in some juicy hardcore and the cops can now throw you in the clink for watching it.

Clearly the real reason these types of control are allowed to prevail is because the people who administer them are actually less concerned with the damage that they proclaim might be inflicted on the innocent victims of a handful of viewers who will then go out and copycat what they've just seen than they are with their gratuitous obsession with stopping all of us grubby little pervs from watching any kind of filthy explicit smut that dares to venture beyond the vanilla.

I know I'm mixing things up a bit here -- the BBFC and the legislators involved in this new law are separate groups of people -- but I think it's interesting how it's not actually the message and its effect that's at issue (violent pervy scene that gives you a hard-on and, hey, might even turn you into a murderer) more than it is the 'medium' (Hollywood pic vs gynaecological hardcore).

Anyone know where sites like Max Hardcore, or even the Hard-fi stuff on Killergram stand with this new law? All seems very vague to me.

That's the idea. It's a catch-all law.
