Be Seen Here and Reggie, I have read your exchange of comments and I dont support the view that someone is homophobic or anti gay if they are against gay people adopting children. People are created as a result of man-woman activity, what gay people do could never create a child. I support the whole issue of being gay - a close relative of mine is gay - and there is no problem because if it is consenting adults behind closed doors then everyone is happy. There is no down-side to anyone or anything. I do think that children should be brought up by a man-woman couple though, and failing that (like if one of the parents dies or something) then in occasional circumstances it is ok to have just the one, but this should not be the norm. When there is no other option, being brought up by a single woman or man is alright - but doing it as a selfish thing from the point of view of the adopting parents, when the gay couple are largely thinking about themselves and less about the kid, is wrong. I know someone who grew up in a very male dominated environment, a single-sex boarding school, and he has had a lot less confidence with women as a result and he desribes the experience as 'unnatural'. If gay people are acknowleging that they are very differnt to hetro people, do differnt things and live a very differnt life, then they are embracing that and shunning the straight life. It is not a choice, they are naturally gay, but they will be aware that it is different to hetro activity (obviously). So why then would some want to get into the straight thing and adopt a kid and raise it? It's very selfish and is only about what the couple want and not what the kid would want. Young children would be very aware, even long before puberty, that kids are not delivered by storks, but come about as a result of their mum and dad getting jiggy between the sheets. It would be very confusing for an adopted kid - adopted by two gay men - as at a young age they would wonder how they came to be. Seeing their two male 'parents' retiring to bed together each night would confuse the child a lot.
