this is a fascinating thread, so interesting to read everyone's unique take on the subject, having grown up thru the 70's and 80's and being of ethnic extraction myself (albeit Italian and Portuguese extraction) my complexion meant I was casually referred to as a 'Paki' or (my personal favorite ) a 'Jungle Bunny' (we haven't heard that one in a while have we ?) right up into my early twenties.

By my mid teens ( Im 49 now) I discovered the very english propensity for not 'taking offence' by responding to said comments in kind, usually with a firm but not unreasonable smack in the mouth, once I discovered that a swift blow to the face with my fist or locally obtainable object such as an ashtray or bottle, I was, as if by magic, transformed from 'Paki' to 'Mate' or 'Geezer' which I have to say I much preferred, and while I welcome the anti-pc stance I have to say you may call a welshman a taff, a liverpudlian a scouser, a scottish gentleman a Jock, and a Jewish man a Yid, but if you refer to me as a Paki, I will smack you in the mouth.....no offence intended.

Surely, being half portugeuse and half italian would make you a Hunk?!wink! ...

So calling someone a Paki is not saying they come from Pakistan!!

and I don't think Porn Historian even mentioned the N word (that cannot be muttered by anybody execpt coloured gentlemen) so of course it is the usual PC crowd putting words in peoples mouths.

Personally I call Paki's as Hamilton Accies as it is a well known phrase in Glasgow and if they want to attempt to smack me in the gub for it then fucking dream on ....
