I can't remember his progress, i.e. from left to right or vice versa or none at all, but it was under his term in office that various laws were liberalised, e.g. those on homosexuality.

he abolished theatre censorhip (the lord chamberlain, etc); decriminalised homosexuality; legalised abortion; reformed the obscene publications act (effectively, decensored literature); liberalised the divorce laws; abolished the death penalty.
not a bad record, imo.
