Definitley an attempt to piggyback on a known and respected brand to increase awareness and sales. I am aware of and already purchased One eyed Jack product but would most likely have confused the "OEP" productions as a derivative of "OEJ"
By the way mayfair and mensworld. Your first 2 posts are encouraging an argument then you have a sudden change of heart and try and be the mediator. I wouldn't trust you as far as I could throw you. Consistency goes a long way in this world and you should definitely be more responsible from the outset. Consider this a smack on the wrist from a disappointed customer.

I think Mayfiar/Mensworld Ed was probably trying to pour oil on troubled waters with a bit of humour, as I tried myself a couple of times. Oh well, you can't please all the people all the time, eh?
I can see two sides to this...

Yes - the name bears striking similarities to OEJ, and I don't think anyone can question the fact that it is synonymous with Terry and also carries an excellent reputation.
Yes - John Mason has used the OEP name - yes it was a collaboration with Terry, but there is no denying John Mason was integral to that collaboration and there is no denying that John Mason is allied to the name OEP.
On the face of it, I think it is entirely OK for John to use the name OEP... What I think was WRONG is the fact that this hasn't been sorted amicably BEFORE John decided to use it for a solo project.
Yes, I think to some degree there is a marketing ploy/advantage from this - but is it a cynical measure? Probably not... in the video world John Mason has connections to the name OEP - makes sense to use that name, but a rather large aside to that (and an advantage) is the fact that he can ride on the back of OEJ...
I think Terry has a point - but at the same time I think John has justifiable claims to the name...
I think the whole affair calls for a cooling off, a bout of mediation (I think Jim [philMc] has volunteered, and I'd like to suggest you both go down that line... Further quarrelling will only harm both of your good names in the industry and possibly your brand names... But at the same time - no publicity is bad publicity!
PS - Does Mr OEJ have an email address?

No issue with that whatsoever Fop. You may notice I didn't make any comments towards you as you were consistent. You can't have your cake and eat it.The Fop wrote:

What? I don't have a clue what you're on about! Soulstew!
Given that I know both John and Terry very well, and that this whole thing was supposedly put to bed by the pair of them, personally, on Monday night, all I've tried to do is point out the very petty nature of their argument.
Tell me, what would you do if two of your mates had a bust up, and you could see both sides but couldn't get either of them to budge? Quite.
John is changing the name, the whole thing's sorted. It should never, ever have even got into the forum.

Soulstew, please see my above post. As you can also see, the entire thing totally snowballed *after* my posts, which were intended to defuse things. Please don't try and judge my character on the basis of a flippant remark based on the Gay Pirate joke.
I've known John for 14 years, and Terry for around five, I think, and both know me as a pretty fair person and a good mate. To see the pair of them at each other's throats is pretty distressing, given their history. As fyrfyter pointed out, there are two sides to this entire argument, and I know both of them.
I think it's fair to point out that at this stage, both parties would appear to have resolved their issues over the name, and I doubt either of them will bother posting to this thread again. My personal feeling is that it should have been settled outside the forum. Over a beer (Appeltise in John's case).

The last post had been written before you had completed yours. I am not intending to continue an argument with you. I was simply a bit surprised by your initial comments given your standing in the market and commercial understanding of situations of these types. I do not take the gay pirates comments as reflective of your character. In fact they are very amusing at the right place and time. That also is down the pub.
I'll get me coat.

Variations on a theme..
There are over 4 different groups doing the rounds called "The Drifters" even if Faye Treadwell owns the name..The other simmilar named groups use the singers name as the lead. There are also a few versions of the Coasters still doing business as there are at least two Temptations.. And we mustn't forget all the tribute bandsthat are going strong.... If this can happen and has done for many years what's the problem.
I've met both John and Terry and even let them use my place for a two day shoot last year and found them both very amenable guys.
My best selling site is a variation on a name. The .com had gone and so I bought .net. There is no resemblance to either site and we both do business.. This is always happing and is a fact of life. Because it's happened between two guys who've been friends and worked together for a while is a shame and I hope it gets resolved asap

lets face it most people have in some way or other copied an idea or theme from someone else in this industry. ive had countless conversations with producers who claim they were the first to invent the fuck truck philosophy.
im also guilty of riding off the back of the third biggest seller in this country by calling my films BBB - british bukkake babes (ripped off from GGG - german gangbang girl).
also reminds me of the old time favourite from the states - wildlife knicked the box cover design off red light - who are now sueing wildlife but who knicked the idea off anabolic in the first place!!!
certain models bitchin at each other for copying each others names blah blah blah blah blah.
at the end of the day it will never stop so u just got to make sure what u do is top quality then people will like it. doesnt matter to the punter who ripped who off!
