It must have been dreadful in those days, how did you survive? red kneed tarantulas!!! what was rationing like? did you own a zeppelin,

They used to ration the zeppelins, so until '42 we only got one a week: then they introduced this Powdered Zeppelin stuff, wasn't the same at all. Ugh. But the Workhouse had its own barrage-balloon factory on-site, so we did pretty well in those days !!
We later shared an Anderson shelter with a family of red-kneed tarantulas, from Burnley I think they were, the grown-ups were OK, but the nippers were terrible. And the hairs got everywhere......
And all the weather-girls had moustaches (I think some of them might even have been MEN !!) and flat chests. And the weather was fuckin' terrible.....kept raining doodlebugs, and you don't want them bastards dropping on you just as you're leaving the Roxy after a nice evening out with a handsome sailor........
