Too young for them Steve, but again, boxers that never ducked anyone. In those days a title fight, a Lonsdale Belt match or commonwealth title fight at The Empire Pool in Wembley was the equivilant of England v Germany in a cup competition nowadays. A MASSIVE 80,000 gate, newspapers reporting it all week. These days some tosser footballer wears a new Armani jacket and it makes front page news!

Its called being civilised
In my book its called being docile
If 2 consenting adults wish to enter a boxing ring and punch the shit out of each other why should we say this is wrong
More people die on the roads than from boxing..we gonna close the roads to stop the carnage...no...so why stop boxing
The thing they fail to see is that boxing like the army teaches discipline
Ask anybody successful what their secret is-discipline
What about the greatest underdog who achieved Aussie/Hungarian Joe Bugner
Twice went the distance with Cassius Clay I believe...now thats having a go
cheers

Hang on Buttsie, before you jump on about 'Aussie Joe' lets remember that he went in against a half-arsed Muhammad Ali firstly (as British) in Feb 1973 a fight that went the distance, but a half arsed Ali went on to lose his next fight 6 weeks later. He had another crack at Ali in July 1975 when he was a bit more serious. It still went the distance, but Joe's finest hour came against Joe Frazier who could REALLY bang a good punch. Again, 12 rounds that he lost, but a damn good show by all accounts. Joe relinquished his British nationality as he was due in court for not paying his ex-wife Melody anything from their divorce. He 'fled' to Australia with his horrid wife/manager, Marlene and took up residency there. He wouldnt have been granted a licence to fight in Britain, so he fought in Oz and had some lame scraps against fodder like Carl 'The Truth' Williams. Joe was partial to giving his ex-wife a right hander in their marriage, and by all accounts, couldnt put her down either!! Your best fighter was Jeff Fenach who wisely threw his trainers towel in whilst preparing Mike Tysons last fight.

Thanks for filling in the black holes in my story
I agree Jeff ( I Luvs You All) was brilliant...currently our most decorated boxer
If it hadn't been for that asshole Don King in the states againsts Azuma Nelson...who knows?......the rematch was his first loss
Although Kostya Tszyu isn't far behind him IMO
cheers

Another immigrant. Was he originally from Georgia or Russia? An amazing scrapper, would beat shit out of Ricky Hatton. Oh, sorry, but Azuma Nelson would have KO'd Jeff, no doubts. Azuma was different class, thats why Barry McGuigan avoided him at ALL costs.
