.....I got the first 2 years free, and only THEN found out it was a "loan". Neither was I entitled to an earnings-related grant ( having been abroad), so I ended up about around ?5 grand in debt....the College were good enough to give me jobs, but they were drops in the Ocean.
I imagine it would be a LOT more nowadays, so you DO have my sympathy.

As has been pointed out, Ms Short at least comes out and says what she believes (a rare thing when a member of Tone's troop) and her views have to be respected even if she's wrong, as I believe she is as regards porn. The industry is by no means a cuddly community where everyone is treated properly, but neither is it the heinous crime against women that Clare and some of her friends would have us believe. She might think it demeans women, but shouldn't she be asking the women in the industry what they think about the subject.
As for the ordinary porn buyer, do we hold Wendy or Layla, for example, in contempt for what they do? I know I don't, nor do the majority of people who post here.
There should be a redefinition of the obscenity laws. Poverty is obscene, street crime, racism, any number of ordinary every day problems are obscene. By and large the human body (mine own excluded) is not obscene, and photographs/videos etc involving consenting adults and for sale to consenting adults should not be any business of the Government. Still, it gives a few publicity-hungry politicos the chance to get their name in The Daily Mail if they campaign against porn.
You could explode a giant paint bomb in the chamber of the House of Commons, and probably only splash a couple of genuinely caring MPs. The rest? If any of you believe they really are out to help their fellow citizens, would you like to buy Tower Bridge?
For the most part, they're only concerned with tomorrow's headlines, and being seen to react immediately to today's. No forward planning goes into governing the country. Long-term strategy? They'd be out of office before it would do them any good.
All this is besides the point. Why the hell were you guys watching Question Time when South Park was on?

marcus, I'd prefer you to have posted that then 'Matt, You're a berk'. I'm the first to admit I do ramble on, but I don't think I make TOO many 'absurd' points or observations. The folly of youth no doubt, but at least I have an excuse

I don't moan on about your patronising often incomprehensible posts, and why should I "leave things to those more knowledgable"? What a load of patronising bullshit. I ask more questions then make points generally, usually precisely because I do not have your experience or knowledge of the industry. Then when I do make a point, I'm told to "leave it to those who know". Great discussion techniques, marcus. No, really.
