C.J. What are you on about? Common courtesy? I never mentioned courtesy. I'm talking about treating people favourably, which then causes friction.

Believe me, if a woman entered a bank with a crash helmet on, she'd also be required to remove it. Also if a female student went to school with a baseball cap on, she would have to take it off or be sent home, while a female Muslim is allowed to wear the hijab. In my example they are both female, but of different cultures & religion.

So yes, I think it is bordering on discrimination.

Well Sam, that's just too bad. To me, a hijab is a WHOLE different thing to me than a regular baseball cap and why in the world would you leave a motorcycle helmet or crash helmet on anyway? Just go on with your life and respect culture.

Respect culture you say? Cool, then the Muslim girls will wear British school uniforms, which have been part of some British schools cultures for over 200 years!

Respecting culture works 2 ways C.J, and since they're living in Britain, it's natural that British culture comes first.......right?

I would say they should follow the laws of the land. LAWS! In other words whatever is the LAW or better still, something the can be arrested for if they don't follow it. Having to remove a hijab is not a law.

Ok. Firstly you tell me to respect other cultures, but when I retort with the point that they aren't respecting British culture you change your mind, and say they should respect law only.

If it's been the culture for a school, for it's students to wear a certain dress code, which has been stuck to for 200 years, is it right for that school to be taken to court by a Muslim family so their daughter can wear a hijab in school? Why not put their daughter in a school without a strict dress code?

By allowing the Muslim girls to wear a hijab, the school is sympathetic, and respecting Muslim culture, but by Muslims refusing historical and traditional British dress codes within certain schools, they are unsympathetic, and disrespectful to that schools traditions and culture......are you following me here?

If you want to talk about laws......

Sikhs are allowed to ride motercycles in the UK without a helmet, so they can wear their turbans, yet it's 'UK LAW' to wear a helmet when riding a motercycle. So even you admit that the Sikhs are disrespecting UK laws......correct?

So we have an instance of disrespecting British traditions and culture, and another instance of disrespecting UK law. Isn't it any wonder that traditional British people who do conform to UK laws and traditional requirements in certain schools, feel a little hurt and treated unequally?

Can you imagine the Saudi government allowing western women to walk down Saudi streets with a bikini on because it's our culture for some women to do so when it's hot?

I guess I meant respect THEIR culture because in amercica as far as I'm concerned we have no culture unless somebody else brought it here i.e. the stolen africans, the italians, the irish, and the native americans who were here already. If they're ALLOWED to wear sikhs or turbans while it's the law to wear a helmet then somehow, somebody recognized, that it's their CULTURE to wear that kind a thing. GOOD!

Lol C.J. Now who's the ignorant one? I just realised you said "if they're allowed to wear sikhs or turbans" !laugh!

I've never seen anyone 'wear' a Sikh!

For future reference, here's a picture of a Sikh (wearing a turban)
