Yep, agree. There have been some high-profile murders, like Stephen Lawrence in the 90s, but today the racist edge of our society is more interested in fire-bombing mosques.

I've travelled in the US a lot and in my estimate, British people are more likely to accept black people as equals than many Americans are.

Britain's largely a safe and friendly place for black people to visit, but it wasn't always that way.

"He'd forgotten that some Americans were black. !wink!"

Are you suggesting that I may not welcome a black American 'round my gaff? On the contrary, I'd much rather they visit than the sort of dickhead that would write such shit.

It was an attempted joke fell flat - my apologies.

Thankfully I've had the privillige enough to travel when I drove over the road as a truck driver (or "lory" to you) in the 1990's and got to see the US and when you leave the city you'll get to see the countryside other than what you see on the TV and a lot of it is still beautiful.

Oh yeah! I remeber you telling about a lady friend moving from Texas to the UK. I believe I had asked how she liked it?

She's doing good, coming up to her first year here. She married her British boyfriend last August. She managed to choose Hackney (East London) as a place to live, which happens to be the poorest place in Britain, and have the highest murder rate. It still ranks above her old neighbourhood in Houston though. !happy!

This is the first dark British winter she's had to cope with, and winter's not much fun in Britain... everyone gets miserable. Summer's good though.

Yep! Texans don't like cold weather and snow. I live in what we call the 'Midwest" part of the US, Chicago to be exact and I'm very familiar with cold weather and snow. You say she lives in Hackney, a poor section of London, I wanted to know how it looked but I know a website I can go to to see. Thanks!
