The whole poing about Reading Books, is exactly that, READING.
It doesn't matter if your reading Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, Porn, War, etc (unless they are based on/actually are FACTUAL), they your reading them for the sake of Enjoyment. In the stories, it does not matter about the intracasies of real life/politics/sociaology/etc, the story has its own rules, & that is what you are reading, you figure out the rules of the story, as you read it, leaving REAL LIFE behind.
So what if you DO NOT like the author/ess or the stories themselves, other people might, & until the law is changed, we here at this time have "the freedom of choice", meaning that if we so choose to read/watch/listen to something of interest/curiosity to us, then so be it. It does not matter what the man in the moon thinks about it, he can go fuck his uncle's dog, it's out choice, simple.
As they say, 1 man's poison in another man's wine.

A lot of it is about the money. A friend of mine recently got a book published. I read it, and it was all right---nothing really special. And I told him that----but I also pointed out the bits that really worked, and still encourage him with other stuff he's doing.
I admire him, and anyone else who tried that sort of thing, for setting himself up to be criticised, and attacked, perhaps even ridiculed. It takes a hell of a lot of balls, plus the discipline to write a book in the first place. Don't think I could do it.
The media does not dictate what I like or dislike. Most often, media hype puts me off something. I ignored the Potter books, ignored The Office. But reacting negatively to the hype is still reacting. Better, much better, to make your own mind up. We're not Daily Mail readers: we can decide for ourselves.
