I've noticed that ITV have borrowed Sky Sports commentators Miles Harrison and Stuart Barnes for their main commentary.

Portugal put in a fantastic performance against the ABs.
They sang their National Anthem in away that puts most other teams to shame.
They played the whole of the game as if they stood a chance.
And the after game reaction reflects on them.

Its easy to be cynical about sport vs money given the sickening current situation re. Ferrari and McLaren and the farce of the Americas Cup but there are still events that cheer me.

They never gave up. They tackled, mauled and rucked with the same intensity throughout the entire game.

Ireland stumbled and bumbled to a 14-10 win over a well organised and highly committed Georgia.

Participation at anything other than the elite full time professional level is neither here nor there.Roughly speaking thats about 120 OZ v 300 England

Here are the stats, read them and weep

England Registered players 1,457,734
Clubs 1,900

OZ Registered players 165,219 (total)
42,100 (adult)
Clubs 752

Thats not to say that Australia has a perfect system, far from it

Take away the poaching of rugby league stars and the dubious inclusions of other nations ready made players via migration and Austrailia would be an also ran

Its the only way we can keep up with the Kiwis & South Africans sadly because we're not producing any real elite replacements

Nothing is ever right/wrong black/white just shades of grey depending on your perspective

The truth is we're a nation in decline from what we were in the 50/60s physically speaking.

The Nambians came within an ace of beating Ireland.

Ireland have look very unsure of themselves in both their games.

Teams playing their second best when coming up against the heavy weights so their stars are fresh for the matches that really count

It really is a joke of the highest order

They might as well seed the top teams and place them straight into the quarterfinals so none of this tanking goes on

Seeing Scotland lose 40-0 at home so they can be fresh for Italy is taking the mickey out of the paying fans
