Hughes is a hypocrite. He supported anti-gay legislation throughout the 80's. Then when he stood for leader of the Lib Dems he "came out".
Oaten was guilty of lying and acting in a deceitful manner. What he did in private with other consenting adults, although many will find distasteful, is entirely a personal matter.

What you mean is The Sun employs the best headline writer it can afford, and coming up with the right headline is that person's night's work.
