Small Faces

You never hear them on the radio because nobody can afford the extortionate royalties Michael Jackson charges. On another note, if you listen to the top 20 or 40 in context then you realise how much total crap there was in the charts (more variety but similar levels of crap to today) in the 1960s, the Beatles invented the late 20th century pop song early on which is why their stuff still sounds good, a little quaint, but very sound.
Final thoughts, the Kinks were excellent but NO WAY as good as the small faces 1966-1969. I recall being in a record shop not very long ago and there ware some 14-15 year olds talking about the relative merits of SF compilations. They made some timeless pop music, very funny a lot of it, which is why it still sells.
The Stones were just an R&B covers band who made it their own but should have stopped after Exile On Main St (1972). After that it's about as embarrassing as watching....well Mick Jagger singing these days really. I used to be a Who fan but then I saw Pete Townshend on that documentary about Mick Jagger last year (pretty good it was too) moaning about how he hates talking to his fans and I realised that the man is an arrogant wanker, an 'artiste', on an ego trip and the other members of the band had a reputation for pretty unpleasant years ago. The fact of Mr T. being a heroin addict years ago has been airbrushed out of their history but he's made up for it by being caught out on the net. He was very very lucky not to go to prison. Who qualifies as the supreme wanker of pop, Robbie Williams or that nothing Paul Mc Cartney I can't decide. What rankles me about these people is that they never give anything back without making a publicity stunt about it. Macca could buy up a load of studio time or better still donate one of his studios to kids who are talented enough. It could all be written off as a tax loss. His performing arts college was just another ego trip, but look at the nepotism involved in getting his daughter into the fashion business. Vladimir Putin should have punched him in the face.
