What an excellent thread.
Obviously the complexities of this case run far and wide, and it's disturbing the way certain quarters of the press see fit to ignore them in order for the case to fit their agenda. Personally, I don't see why Tony Martin shouldn't be paid in some way for speaking exclusively to the Mirror as they, after all, are only really speaking to him to cash-in (and with remarkable success, I'm told). It's vile, of course, but 100k to Martin or 100k to some godforsaken 'celeb' wanking on about their made-up neuroses? You decide.
Perhaps it's the manner, the tabloidism. The Mirror has been a disgrace for quite some years now, so I expected nothing less. But their not alone. Go to the True Crime section of any bookshop and you'll see cashing-in taken to extremes, but that's the acceptable, faux-academic argument you're dealing with now - and you can bet Martin will find a comfortable niche there too. It's safe to say this particular gravy train has only just left the station. Ker-chings all round.
