I have been to Mr Stiens restaraunt as well CC, very nice, but as someone who spends a lot of time in Cornwall I am seeing a shift back to 'meateries' and not before time, there are so many fish restaraunts in St Ives, you have a job to get a steak anywhere, thankfully this is now being addressed and not before time, I,m not that keen on anything that looks back at me from the plate, as far as soup goes, I had some home made crab,sweetcorn and ginger with cornbread in the Tate, it was delicious, but cost a fiver,! my mistake I was horribly stoned............., er not by the staff.!

Hi Lizard...Yeah I agree St Ives is a total tourist trap, and is a mecca for arty farty types, and does have more than its fair share of fishy bistros, however that is what 90% of visitors want.
?5 for a bowl of soup does seem a bit steep, but crab meat makes about ?12 a pound so the raw ingredients are costly. Like the idea of ginger in
crab & sweetcorn must try that next time I brew some up.

Visited a friend over the weekend who had make some delicious pumpkin soup with the by product of the haloween lantern. Excellent served with a swirl of cream and some toasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds on top.
(waste not want not).

By the way Lizard being an expert on tea, what is your favourite, I am an Assam man myself as I like a nice strong brew with plenty of tanning, if I have to settle for bags I prefer Typhoo but would appreciate your expert opinion. (black no sugar).
