To be fair, he's pretty small beer in genocidal terms: I mean, if you're not into the millions, you're not even a contender............and as a torturer he had a lot to learn.

The weird thing thing with Sadaam is, that Irac had the largest population of christian arabs in the middle east ,i think they're chaldean but i'm not too sure.Saadam himself was'nt too enamoured with Osama and his bunch of fun loving criminals, he thought they were a bit dodgy and not to be trusted and furthermore his foreign minister [Tariq Aziz] is christian.
Sadaam was dictator over a plural society in the middle east ,kind of a oxymoron, that!

Yes, like Stalin he was very democratic- he hated almost every individual, and very catholic- he hated every group.

The sad thing is that Stalin could have been stopped at an early stage. His supporters suppressed publication of parts of Lenin's will which would have ended his aspirations. Once he was in place, that was it for opposition. Even his friends suffered, and his family, and as Guilbert pointed out Georgia, his home country. The nastiest piece of work the 20th century produced, and that's saying something---but turned into lovable "Uncle Joe" when he was on our side.

If there is such a place as hell, I hope he's there, eternally having his liver eaten by vultures.

The entries of Guilbert and Caratacus are most interesting. As Guilbert points out but few people realise Hitler was democratically elected. The reasons for his hatred of the Jews is not entirely clear. He makes attempts to explain it in Mein Kampf but does not wholly succeed. There is little doubt that up to about 1941 he was an able and masterful politician. He then went off the rails, possibly because of Parkinson's Disease. Although clearly he was the motivating force behind the policy known as the 'final solution to the Jewish problem in Europe,' the evil genius behind its implementation was Reinhard Heydrich. The policy was formulatted at the Wansee Conference in Berlin under Heydrich's chairmanship.

Stalin was mainly responsible for murder on a far vaster scale of his own people, i.e. the Soviet people. Stalin himself was a Georgian. He did purge the military several times but most of the deaths were of peasants. Stalin introduced a policy of mass starvation as part of his plans to introduce collective farms. The actual policy of collective farms was right for the time, but clearly not the way Stalin had it done.

It is perhaps worth noting on a lighter note that both Beira and Himmler introduced policies to enable them to identify people who criticised their respective leaders, by placing an NKVD or Gestapo informant in every street or block of flats. I am not sure what the Soviets called it. The Nazis called it the block fuehrer system. We now call it Neighbourhood Watch!

Some criticism has to be made of the two wartime American presidents and Churchill for failing to understand Stalin's true evil. I still maintain Joe was the most evil man in World history.
