Fundamentalist Islam sees the West as immoral and decadent and a threat to its holy way of life as ordained by Allah.

You're right, what is frightening is that if we invade Iran, they have a standing army of around a million men. The only recourse the Yanks will have to defeat this army is to use tactical nuclear weapons, namely Newtron Bombs. This will enable them to zap the Iranians and take their country within days, with the infrastructure intact. You would have the problem of disposing of a couple of million bodies, but hey, when did the Yanks ever think "Long term"?
This was always the plan during the Cold War in the event that the USSR had launched an attack from East Berlin, basically to Nuke'em.
I reckon the Israelis are merely prodding and provoking the Arab world to see if they have the bottle for a war. Furthermore I believe the yanks are using the Israelis, a little like a rabid terrier on a leash, so all we need now is a few operatives from one of the many U.S. dirty tricks groups to lob a few missiles at Israel from within Iran's borders and we're on our way to Armageddon!

bit of a misnomer about the newtron bomb
the common perception of the neutron bomb as a "landlord bomb" that would kill people but leave buildings undamaged is greatly overstated. At the conventional effective combat range (690 m), the blast from a 1 kt neutron bomb will ruin almost any civilian building. Thus the use of neutron bombs to stop an enemy attack, which requires exploding large numbers of them to blanket the enemy forces, would also destroy all buildings in the area.

Hmmm, I didn't mention the fact that is virtually no "Infrastructure" in what would be the actual theatre of war, mostly desert. 25 years ago when i was looking into this stuff, the Newtron Bomb was pretty good at doing what it was supposed to do, but it hadn't been made into a tactical weapon. By now the Yanks would have refined it so as to zap large pockets of troops and little else.
Anyway there is no other way, other than to endure a massive land battle, which i think is out of the question.
The use of this weapon would also have the effect of terrorising any other Arab nations into submission, before they even thought about counter attacking.
The end game would have been won, ie the Americans and Israelis securing and plundering the whole of the Middle East.

I doubt they would use any nukes, the outcry would be too great
in any case they probably wouldn't need to, they'd get control of the air, then any large scale deployment of troops would be wiped out by conventional weapons such as the air blast fuel bomb

......"the end game would have been won"
Hey, are you crazy?!
Such actions would only galvanise the Arab Nations and the Islamic 'brotherhood', thus bringing Armageddon ever closer.
Bush and Blair have surely already opened the gates of hell with their meddling in middle Eastern affairs.
