You want to talk about "Scientific rationalism"? Using your line of "reasoning", I could tell you (just for the sake of argument) that I have a theory that there's a planet made of cheese twice the size of Earth and populated by laughing cows orbiting some obscure white dwarf star in a hitherto undiscovered solar system somewhere about 50 cubed light years away - and then tell you "go disprove it - otherwise it's assumed to be true".

As for the others - I thought that this debate was supposed to be about immigration proper, not students and tourists coming over for 6 months on work experience and to take in the night-life. There's a world of difference between that sort of immigration (which isn't really "immigration" at all) and hundreds of thousands of Eastern Europeans looking to settle permanently - be they legals or illegals (and your dismissal of the illegals as "irrelevant" is another cop-out, by the way).
Even then, you can't tell me that they outnumber the Bulgars and the Romanians. And if that's your contention then once again - you stand challenged to produce evidence to back it up.

Imigration has it's good sides of course,skilled workers,Russian Billionares...but the real problem here is our welfare system.
Social security qualifies too many people for an easy life,both immigrants and layabouts.
I visit Romania every few months,they don't give out money there.But to be fair the Gypsies are treated like sh!t there,don't blame them for leaving,just wish it wasn't to ole Blightey.
