An excellent argument. Not easy to go along with (emotions get in the way), but excellent nevertheless.

>Trust me, half of these folk are artists BECAUSE they are flawed and fucked up, not despite it.

Oh yes I absolutely agree, and I can assure you I appreciate artistic texts for what they are not what kind of people there creators were. This Langham thing is still quite recent and a little raw so I think I have the right to be a little uncomfortable for a while, I can't help my gut reaction to it. Still I think artists have a responsibility as role models and influential people, I certainly don't think they should use the fact that they are tortured artists as an excuse to fuck kids.

I honestly believe the emotiveness of this subject is why it is so high profile now, and in a way people are being 'played' by the goverment and media. I said many years they would use it as a way of introducing public-approved laws that erode and chip away at our freedom and together with terrorism that it was is has been used for. Very few people can judge this unpalatable subject without prejudice and what was once confined to prisons re:'nonces' is very much part of everyday life, anyone with a subjective (i.e different) perspective of this is branded 'liberal', as if a rational and cohenrant viewpoint on this is unacceptable.

And if the problem of child abuse is to be resolved/cured eventually it needs to be understood properly rather than simply throwing legislation at it, almost every case of someone downloading these images from Glitter to Langham points to abuse suffered by those people as children themselves and that is something that needs to be worked, helping the abused from becoming abusers and breaking the viscious circle... and the 'crime' of downloading it is, despite what we are told, victimless crime and the argument that the actual abuse would stop if this stuff is brought out of circulation is weak, the likely outcome is the abuse would continue and simply not be recorded.

Apparently, it was reported in The Daily Scum - sorry Sun yesterday that he had broken down in tears in the dock. The prosecuting judge said - Why are we supposed to beleive this break down you are an actor aren't you? And, there's no tears on your face!!

Classic.

BTW Pete Townsend got off because the computer went missing. (i think) but it's something weird like that. I wonder if langham has the same lawyer?
